This is our six year of making Grenache Noir from this vineyard. Northern Lake County is not afraid to get hot and Grenache is the perfect grape to bask in that heat. The Tejada’s do a great job running a small family vineyard in a sustainable fashion and the grapes prove that. We used native fermentation combined with 100% neutral oak aging to let this wine show off what we pulled out of the vineyard. Light ruby in the glass, bright berries and seawater on the nose, and strawberry, cherries and a slight herbaceous note in the mouth.

Aging punk rockers, Dan Schaaf and Aaron Olson began making wines together in 2008 using a battered little warehouse in Napa. Their minimalist wines use fruit from a variety of Northern California locations. Their wines - 100-plus year old head-trained Zinfandel from the Del Barba Vineyard; balanced and fun white blends from the Cecchini Vineyard in Contra Costa County; tart strawberry Grenache Noir from the Tejada family’s beautiful Lake County vineyard; Orange Chardonnay and Falanghina from up-and-coming San Benito County; and the white pepper of Albini Carneros Cabernet Franc - showcase their love of the land around them.
Each wine is produced in the same manner – spontaneous fermentation, minimal SO2, neutral oak and ambient temperatures. “We do our best to not screw with what comes out of the vineyards, not just rolling with but embracing the differences from one year to the next.”
