This is the only still wine from Podere Sottoilnoce at the moment. A wine made from a very rare grape variety, Trebbiano di Spagna. This grape is almost extinct, we estimate at 30 ha being produced today. Max is putting a lot of energy to try to revive it, despite its very low yield, and the fact that it is very hard to cultivate. The result is worth the effort!
Trebbiano di Spagna has nothing in common with Trebbiano Modenese who is also used by Max. And it seems like it also has nothing to do with Spain, but was native from this area, especially around the road (via di Spagna) where Max winery currently his, which was the old pilgrimage road going to France and then Spain... DNA researched showed that it had common genes with Albana from Romagna. A very unique grape, for a very unique aroma and flavor profile. Unique but delicious!

Podere Sottoilnoce is a 7-hectare wine estate located in the picturesque village of Castelvetro di Modena , at the very heart of the Lambrusco Grasparossa DOC . The proprietor and winemaker , Max Brondolo has been applying biodynamic principles since 2016 , with the goal of maintaining the balance between monoculture (vineyards) and surrounding nature . Podere Sottoilnoce is a first-generation winery . While Max started this project from zero , his family still had some experience with wine as his grandfather was also a winemaker , but in Asti , in Piedmont . That's where he built his first memories of wine as a kid - sparkling barbera . Very discreet about his previous professional life , he regrets he didn’t start with winemaking earlier in his ...
